"A Sister is someone who hears
the song in my heart
And sings it to me
when my memory fails...."

My sister and my friend

The very word "sister" brings a warmth to my heart. Janell is four years older than myself, so she became my model and example. All the positive things ever said about sisters could be said about Janell.

Janell and Carol, young

To other people, we look a lot alike and in a lot of ways we are alike, but there are differences also. She is a very organized person and I'm sure she has a hard time understanding the way I operate. I can't understand it, either. But she accepts me as I am and loves me just the same.

One of the things I've always liked about her is her sense of humor. If something is funny, she laughs with all she has, and I just love that!

Janell as a teenager in the picture below.
It was about this time of her life
when someone tagged the nickname "skinny" on her.
I think it's the "Audrey Hepburn" look.

Janell is one of the few people I know who can truly keep a secret. She has a very caring and thoughtful nature. Therefore, she has many friends. In matters of right and wrong, she is always guided by her deep faith in God. She has a loving husband, Kenneth, a daughter, Suzanne, and two grandsons, Kyle and Tyler.

With every passing year I realize more and more how blessed I have always been in the sisterly department, and I'm so thankful for that!

I love you, Janell........I hope I have you in my life forever.

Thanks for the memories.
Your loving sister, Carol

"There is no Friend like a Sister"

from "There Is No Friend Like A Sister"
by Mary Engelbreit

There's no better friend than a sister -
There's no one more loyal and true . . .
and even when sisters are different . . .
their likeness comes shining through!

Perhaps it's a family resemblance,
that strengthens the bond they share . . .
or maybe it's just that sisters live life with a similar flair!
A sister remembers your collegehood -
She knows more than you will admit,
of times you were Little Miss Perfect . . .
and times you gave others a fit!
She's seen you in some situations
when silence just wouldn't suffice . . .
and managed somehow to get by with those
sisterly words of advice!

And when some encouragement's needed . . .
a sister will always be there . . .
to listen . . .
to laugh . . .
or to lean on . . .
to comfort, or simply to care.

There's no one who's more in your corner . . .
and no one you're more grateful to.
There's no better friend than a sister . . .
and no better sister than you.

"The desire to be and have a sister is a primitive and profound one that may have everything or nothing to do with the family a woman is born to. It is a desire to know and be known by someone who shares blood and body, history and dreams . . ."
Elizabeth Fishel

"My sisters have taught me how to live."
George Wasserstein

"Sisters share the scent and smells... the feel of a common childhood."
Pam Brown

for she knows where the decoration has been added."
Chris Montaigne

"There can be no situation in life in which the conversation of my dear sister will not administer some comfort to me."

"Sisters are connected throughout their lives by a special bond... whether they try to ignore it or not.
For better or for worse, sisters remain sisters, until death do them part."
Brigid McConville
from "Sisters: Love and Conflict Within The Lifelong Bond"

"One's Sister is a part of one's essential self, an eternal presence of one's heart and soul and memory."

"Sisters -- they share the agony and the exhilaration. As youngsters they may share popsicles, chewing gum, hair dryers and bedrooms. When they grow up, they share confidences, careers and children, and some even chat for hours every day."
Roxanne Brown

"There's a special kind of freedom sisters enjoy.
Freedom to share innermost thoughts, to ask a favor, to show their true feelings. The freedom to simply be themselves."

"Only a sister can compare the sleek body that now exists with the chubby body hidden underneath. Only a sister knows about former pimples, failing math, and underwear kicked under the bed."
Laura Tracy, from "The Secret Between Us"

"Sisters don't need words. They have perfected a language of snarls and smiles and frowns and winks...expressions of shocked surprise and incredulity and disbelief. Sniffs and snorts and gasps and sighs...that can undermine any tale you're telling."
Pam Brown
